We’re at that time of the year again when people reflect and take stock of the year. You may find your social media feeds and timelines flooded with all the great accomplishments your friends and family have achieved throughout the year.
I remember previously being in the same position and feeling dismay because I didn’t feel I had achieved anything ‘amazing’ throughout the year. Then I had to quickly catch and stop myself from spiralling.
It’s really easy to compare your own accomplishments to everyone else’s highlight reel but it’s pointless and counterproductive. Progress is progress even if it doesn’t seem glamorous or perfect.
The tagline for my site is based on this very sentiment (‘Progress > Perfection’ – the ‘>’ symbol is the mathematical sign for ‘greater than’; the math nerd in me couldn’t resist 😉 ). I think it’s easy to forget but (unnecessary) comparison really is the thief of joy.
I’ve found that if I just focus on MY own journey, trust God has a plan (Jeremiah 29:11) and take things step by step, one day at a time, it’s a lot more productive.
